NCLC Releases Fall Issue of Consumer Impact and Progress on Consumer Protection Issues
The National Consumer Law Center has issued the Fall issue of its Consumer Impact publication. The issue addresses the areas in which the NCLC has made progress on consumer protection issues.
One of the most important articles in the issue describes the ways in which the NCLC has supported consumer attorneys since the Supreme Court’s decision in Spokeo v. Robins. The Spokeo decision addressed whether consumers have the right to file lawsuits against, among other things, banks, mortgage servicers, and debt collectors, for per se violations of federal laws that may not have actual damages.
Some of the major laws affected by the Spokeo decision are the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This quarter’s Consumer Impact is worth a read to see what some of the major issues are in the realm of consumer financial protection law.
