Annual Report on Fair Debt Collection Practices Act Released by FTC
The Federal Trade Commission has released its annual report summarizing its enforcement of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the federal law that prohibits debt collectors from engaging in abusive or deceptive debt collection tactics.
Among its accomplishments, the FTC has filed more lawsuits against debt collectors than in any other year, and has obtained over $140 million in judgments against debt collectors.
It also filed amicus briefs in two important court cases involving debt collection issues, and has banned 47 companies from working in the debt collection industry.
If you have a complaint about a debt collector or unfair business practices, you can file a complaint here: FTC Complaint Link.
